Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) Phase 2:
Offers energy efficiency measures and low-carbon heating to low-income households in the worst-performing, off-gas-grid homes in England.
Up to £630 million of grant funding awarded to successful local authorities.
Apply for help to improve a home with no gas boiler (Home Upgrade Grant)

Sustainable Warmth Competition:
Awards funding to local authorities to upgrade energy-inefficient homes of low-income households in England.
Includes Local Authority Delivery Phase 3 (LAD3) for low-income homes heated by mains gas and Home Upgrade Grant Phases 1 and 2 (HUG1 and HUG2) for low-income households off the gas grid.

Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund

Aims to upgrade social housing stock currently below EPC D to a higher standard.
Wave 1 awarded around £179 million, delivering upgrades from 2022 to 2023.
Wave 2.1 allocated £778 million for 2022/23 to 2024/25 for local authorities, combined authorities, registered providers of social housing, and registered charities.
Eligible properties will be contacted by their social housing provider.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO):
Requires energy suppliers to help households reduce heating costs by fitting energy-saving measures.
Different energy suppliers offer varying types of support and improvements, so check with your energy company for eligibility.

Helps people insulate their homes to make them more energy-efficient and save money on their energy bills.

British Energy Helpline is an independent charitable trust dedicated to reducing CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions while providing energy-efficient homes with occupant comfort. Our mission includes:

  • Combating Climate Change: By reducing energy consumption and enhancing efficiency in homes and businesses across the UK.
  • Promoting Energy Efficiency: Offering free consultations and advice on improving energy efficiency, from better insulation to adopting renewable energy sources.
  • Supporting Low-Income Households: Assisting families who struggle to afford energy bills or upgrade their energy efficiency measures, ensuring they benefit from available government grants and schemes.
  • Raising Awareness: Educating the public about their rights, government schemes, energy-saving tips, and the importance of reducing energy usage to combat climate change.
  • Advocating for Change: Liaising with local authorities, energy suppliers, Ofgem, and the UK government to forward the concerns of those in fuel poverty and push for systemic change.
